Biography

Jake studied at Bournemouth College of Art & design and later in 1987 graduated in Expressive Arts from Brighton Polytechnic. After a spell in industry he became a full time professional artist in 1993.

Jake exhibits widely in the South of England and in 2004 was a finalist in the Daily Mail's ' Not the Turner Prize' competition. In 2007 Jake's work was selected for the Royal Society of British Artists exhibition in London and from that time he has been contributing articles about his painting style for The Artist magazine. In 2009 he won the prestigious St. Cuthberts Mill Award for the best watercolour painting at the Society of Equestrian Artists annual exhibition in the Mall galleries, London. Later that year Townhouse Films produced Jake's first DVD 'Watercolour from Dark to Light' and more recently he won the award for Best Painting In Show at the annual Marwell International Wildlife Art Society exhibition.

Inspired by light and movement Jake's paintings are reflections of the world around him. As well as exhibitions he has undertaken many fine art commissions for individuals and notable organisations including the National Trust.

In addition to his work, he runs workshops and masterclasses.
